“In 1981 Ann Berlips and George Cramer, started their business , King Louie in the beautiful city of Amsterdam. They met in high school and found they shared an interest in vintage clothing.
They quickly found various contacts and started to accumulate beautiful vintage clothing. Their finds were then sold at the Amsterdam Noordermarkt market. Then in 1983 they opened the first Exota shop in the Jordan area of Amsterdam.
In the 1980’s, they introduced the very first product from their own label: a black turtle-neck. Back in those days it was fashionably combined with Levi’s 501 jeans. There was so much demand for the black turtle-necks, they could not find enough vintage ones.
They have always been passionate about developing clothing that makes people happy. They designed the prints themselves, which featured bright colours and bold designs.
In the 1990’s, they moved the Exota shop to Hartenstraat in the 9-Streets area in the Amsterdam shopping district. They are still there today. Some partnerships with other shops have continued for many years.
King Louie products are available in some of the most beautiful shops across Europe.
They are committed to the maximum fulfilment of beautiful, vintage inspired clothing!
